The main goal of the seminar is to transform gaming practice, which is casually believed to be a nonimportant recreational activity, into a training ground for the production of knowledge and social and cultural studies.
This event is part of the public program of the World Gone By computer class.

Performance Hydrogen City is the new site-specific performance by Digital Object Alliance invites visitors to experience the materiality of a speculative world of the future through the possible embodiment of videogame logics. The performance took place at Hyundai Motorstudio Moscow as part of the joint program by Garage Digital and the online platform Rhizome for the international exhibition World on a Wire.
In 2019, the artist researched the advantages and limitations of the “digital body” and tested motion and facial capture methods by creating digital versions of traditional Indonesian dances.
In the fall of 2020, Garage will present two multimedia performances in a single day that continue Lu Yang’s research while also touching upon the topics of remote presence and technological representation of human individuality. Each performance will be composed of several short sets by electronic hardcore and speedcore and EDM musicians, accompanied by improvisation by a dancer wearing a mockup costume. With their movements transferred to a specially set up virtual space, the dancers will assume the digital image of the artist. The generated video footage will be broadcast via the Museum’s social media accounts before being saved to Garage Digital.
To implement the performance, the Museum is looking for two physically delicate male dancers under 175 cm in height, familiar with the genres of electronic hardcore and speedcore and EDM and ready to improvise.
Applications will be accepted at garagedigital@garagemca.org until October 15; candidates who have successfully passed the first stage will be notified personally.
Applications must contain a brief CV indicating the candidate’s height and a portfolio of photo and video documentation of previous performances.
In November, Garage will organize an audition to select dancers from among the successful first stage applicants. Rehearsals will be scheduled prior to the performance. Participation in the performance will be paid.
